'Çiçak' is a film made in collaboration with Michael
Whitby. A narrtion describes the story of a detective sent to a foreign
country, over shots taken in Kuala Lumpur and Chicago, and shots featuring
the artists themselves in a derelict house in London.
"After the airport, all glass and plastic plants; foyers
seemingly without end, I got in a cab that took me to the hotel, in
an old part of town. After the plastic-wrapped journey I’d had,
the flaking paint and gently rotting wood of the beat-up reception
came as something of a relief. I expected geckos on the wall above
the bracket-mounted television; I wasn’t disappointed –
two nestled close to the ceiling, wrapped around each other, although
it’s hard to project amorous feelings onto creatures so jittery
and un-blinking."
In its installation for Praradise Lost, hosted
by Floor Ten gallery, the film was accompanied by a large poster and
a take away DVD, which contained a slide show of black and white photographs
taken on a trip to Kulala Lumpur in 2006.
