OF HORSES, HOOVES &
HIPPOPHAGY

2011

Of Horses, Hooves & Hippophagy was commissioned by Meantime Project Space and Cheltenham Art Gallery and Museum. It was made during a residency at Meantime during April 2011.

The film was made as a responce to a visit to the Cheltenham racing festival. It includes footage of the races, clips from the films Secretariat and The Black Stallion and studio shots of models and props.

A narration performed by an English and an American actress combines excerpts from the scripts of the two films mentioned above, and fragments on horses, horse meat, domestication, architecture and racing written by the artist. A musical soundtrack was produced in collaboration with Ed Atkins.

Two essays were written in conjunction with the making of the film, available at the show in a printed booklet, or here as a PDF.
